Diane Tolhurst

Honoree, Dr. William E. Tolhurst Travel Fund, was established by family and friends to honor his 33 years (1977-2010) of service to Northern Illinois University as a dedicated teacher, mentor, scholar, and department chair. His teaching and scholarship focused primarily on aesthetics, ethics, and also included Chinese philosophy. Dr. Tolhurst spent many years on the University Council. He also served as philosophy department chair. During his time as chair, he was instrumental in growing the graduate program. He also improved undergraduate education by collaborating with the College of Business to create the certificate of undergraduate study in Applied Ethics. He had a lifelong love of learning and was passionate about fostering this love in others.
