Mrs. Leona Hanson

Dr. Ernest E. Hanson served NIU for over 30 years. He was a 1930 graduate of NIU and had a desire to make a difference in the lives of students throughout his career by providing financial assistance to students in the College of Education. Dr. Hanson taught Junior High School in Rockford, was principal of the Junior High School and was superintendent of Lake Bluff Schools. He became a professor of education at NIU, Dean of Men, Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Affairs. He was instrumental in building the Holmes Student Center and he continuously promoted student needs and provided for their welfare. He was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from the NIU Alumni Association in 1968.
