Roxanne Isenhart

Roxanne graduated from Northern Illinois University after starting her degree 14 years earlier at Iowa State University. During Roxanne?s first two years at Iowa State University, she met her husband Jon, who graduated and took a teaching job in Illinois. Roxanne left Iowa State University after her sophomore year to move to Illinois with Jon.After Roxanne and Jon?s third son was born, Roxanne attended night classes at the junior college, until she was able to attend Northern Illinois University to complete her degree. It took two more years of commuting from Wheaton to complete her degree. Roxanne was fortunate to receive financial help from NIU during this time.Roxanne accepted a teaching position at a junior high school in Wheaton where she taught for 21 years. During this time, she realized how important early childhood education and nutrition were to future generations. This is the reason she created this scholarship.During retirement, Roxanne volunteers with Cooking Matters at the local resource center. She and Jon are very concerned about good nutrition on a limited budget, and introducing new foods to children in fun recipes. She has found this to be very rewarding.
