SA President

Don Gereau is establishing this award to recognize the SA President and the commitment it takes to lead the Student Association. Don received his Bachelor of Science in Management from NIU in 1975. He served as vice-chair in a public relations effort to increase the number of athletes participating in Special Olympics and is a founding member of the Special Olympics Illinois Foundation. Don serves on the Board Executive Committee and he co-chaired the legislative policy committee of ACCSES, a disability advocacy organization based in Washington D.C. He also founded and provides operational support as the Executive Director of the JDWI Foundation in Galena, Illinois providing grants to families and individuals with disabilities. Don’s wife, Kathy, graduated from NIU with a degree in Special Education and retired from the Galena School District in 2000. Their daughter, Madeline, works with Teach for America in Los Angeles.
