Samuel Clogston
John Clogston will always be remembered as an “enabled, disabled” professional whose love for journalism and bond with his students made him a unique educator and a fine friend.A severe car accident in 1985 left Clogston in a wheelchair, but this didn’t stop him from succeeding. Clogston began teaching at NIU in 1991. Many said Clogston taught them to feel comfortable around people with disabilities. “He taught me that people with disabilities shouldn’t be pitied. They should be respected,” said Kim Ruppert, journalism faculty assistant. This scholarship has been established in the memory of John Clogston.
