Steve Young, managing director for HealthScape Advisors, guides clients on a wide range of strategic, operational, and regulatory issues related to health care. Currently, he is primarily focused on assisting clients with healthcare reform and market transformation issues, such as risk adjustment, provider alignment and integration, value based reimbursement, government program expansion, MLR, and market and product realignment.Throughout his career, Steve has assisted clients in improving operational efficiency to drive administrative cost reduction, reduce financial risks and threats, and increase revenue and margin associated with government programs. Steve has also served as an expert witness associated with healthcare industry issues with a particular focus on pricing, reimbursement, and standard practices. He is a frequent speaker at national conferences and has been published in numerous articles focusing on the impact of health reform and other current industry topics.Prior to co-founding HealthScape, Steve started his career with Arthur Andersen in 1983. He was made partner at Arthur Andersen in 1995 and led the Chicago office Government Programs and Health Plan practice. Upon his departure from Arthur Andersen in 2002, he was one of the founding managing directors for Huron Consulting Group’s Pharmaceutical and Health Plan practice. Steve left Huron to co-found HealthScape Advisors in 2009. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University and is a licensed CPA in the State of Illinois.Elizabeth “Betsy” Young, is co-founder and former chief financial officer at Threshold Power, a new clean energy company committed to making clean energy more competitive, profitable, and mainstream. Betsy is a seasoned asset and portfolio manager with more than 25 years of experience with leading companies such as Allstate Insurance Company, Heller Financial, and GE Capital. While at Allstate, she structured and managed direct investments across a broad risk spectrum from venture capital to senior-rated debt and co-managed the growth of Allstate Project Finance, building a US $700 million portfolio within 3 years. As Senior Vice President at GE Capital Corporation, Ms. Young originated, structured, and underwrote investments in energy related companies while implementing comprehensive portfolio management practices for a $250 million portfolio. In 2006, Betsy served as board advisor to the Lost Lake Utility District for its acquisition of the water and wastewater system, which represented the first new Illinois utility district in 20 years and allowed the District to complete the acquisition with no disruption in service. In 2008, Betsy transitioned from her investor/lender role into clean energy asset management. Through roles with EON Climate & Renewables and Acciona Energy North America, Betsy developed “best in class” asset management groups which formed the foundation for the strategy for Threshold Power.Ms. Young began her career in 1983 as a CPA with Arthur Andersen’s Assurance practice focusing her career on investment advisory and portfolio management. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accountancy and computer science from Northern Illinois University. Steve and Betsy have successful careers in business and believe the solid accounting foundation provided through their education at Northern Illinois University was instrumental in their success. As such, the Youngs were moved to give back to a program that has given them so much and to support its continued growth and success.
