Winefred Halsey

Winifred Halsey graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in biological sciences in 1974. She worked for Baxter Laboratories for several years before returning to NIU to get a master?s degree in biological sciences, focusing on medical pathogens and genetic engineering, under the direction of Patricia Vary.After receiving her graduate degree in 1979, she worked for a variety of pharmaceutical companies and medical research institutions including Northwestern and Loyola. She pursued studies through NIU?s Library Science Department for a year before becoming a consultant in science and business information research and analysis. Winifred credits her strong science background gained at NIU with her success working for a variety of demanding corporations, including NutraSweet, Motorola, Microsoft, and Abbott Laboratories.Winifred also credits her husband, Norman Read, with his continuing support which has helped make this scholarship possible. She is also grateful to her mother, Winifred Ethel Halsey, for her unwavering support. This scholarship was established in both their names.
